Palomar beach volleyball sweeps doubleheader at Rosie's Dog Beach

Palomar turned in its best day of the season on sweeping Riverside City College 5-0 before defeating Cypress College 4-1 at Rosie's Dog Beach to improve to 3-4 on the year.

The Comets were flawless against Riverside City, taking all five flights in straight sets. Emma Bambe and Reese Maffitt opened things at No. 1, and the lineup held strong from top to bottom — Kiana Merrill and Charlie McLaughlin, Annie Cummings and Skylar Zetmeir, and Kate Johnson and Grayson Grein each posted clean two-set wins. Caden Pinto and Janice Garcia added the day's only three-set match at No. 2, dropping the second set 18-21 before closing it out 17-15 to complete the sweep.

Against Cypress, Palomar won four of five flights to close out the doubleheader. Bambe and Maffitt fell in a tight No. 1 match, dropping consecutive sets 21-15 and 22-20 to Addison Riddle and Keilyn Flores. The Comets answered with wins at every other flight, including a three-set battle from Johnson and Grein at No. 5, who rallied to take the decisive set 15-17 after splitting the first two. Pinto and Garcia, Merrill and McLaughlin, and Cummings and Zetmeir all won in straight sets to secure the match.

Palomar opens conference play next week with a doubleheader against San Diego City College and Mt. San Jacinto College at San Diego Mesa College.
