Palomar drops two conference matches at MiraCosta College

OCEANSIDE, CA (3/20/2026) -- Palomar fell to Grossmont College 5-0 and Mt. San Jacinto College 3-2 on March 20 at MiraCosta College, dropping to 3-10 on the season.

Against Grossmont, the Comets were competitive in spots but couldn't secure a flight. Emma Bambe and Reese Maffitt pushed their No. 1 match to three sets, dropping a hard-fought 26-24, 18-21, 10-15 decision to Kylie Smith and Norma Ramirez. Charlie McLaughlin and Skylar Zetmeir also went the distance at No. 4, falling 15-21, 21-18, 8-15 before Grossmont closed out the remaining flights in straight sets.

The second match against Mt. San Jacinto offered more encouragement, with Palomar winning two flights against a Eagles squad that entered at 6-13. Bambe and Maffitt were sharp at No. 1, sweeping Destiny Affor and Daija Malcolm 21-17, 21-11 to avenge a loss to the same pair earlier in the season. McLaughlin and Zetmeir added a second Palomar point with a 21-15, 21-17 win at No. 4. MSJC took the remaining three flights, including wins at No. 2, No. 3, and No. 5, to claim the match 3-2.

Palomar is 3-10 overall and returns home next week to host MiraCosta College and San Diego City College at MiraCosta College.
