Palomar splits doubleheader at MiraCosta College, defeats San Diego City
OCEANSIDE, CA (3/27/2026) -- Palomar dropped a 5-0 decision to MiraCosta College before bouncing back to defeat San Diego City College 4-1 on March 27 at MiraCosta College, improving to 4-11 on the season.
MiraCosta was dominant in the opening match, sweeping all five flights in straight sets without dropping a set. Bambe and Maffitt were tested at No. 1 but fell 21-14, 21-12, and the Comets couldn't generate traction anywhere in the lineup against the host Spartans.
Palomar responded with its best performance in weeks against City, taking four of five flights to close out the day. Emma Bambe and Reese Maffitt set the tone at No. 1 with a commanding 21-7, 21-15 sweep, and Caden Pinto and Dovie Daniels followed with a 21-16, 21-17 win at No. 2. Kiana Merrill and Annie Cummings gutted out the day's most competitive match at No. 3, dropping the opener 21-23 before responding with a 21-10, 15-8 run to close it out. Charlie McLaughlin and Skylar Zetmeir added a straight-set win at No. 4 to clinch the match. San Diego City's only point came at No. 5.
Palomar is 4-11 overall and will travel to Grossmont College next week to face San Diego Miramar College and Grossmont.
