Palomar drops two at MiraCosta College, No. 1 and No. 2 shine against Mesa

OCEANSIDE, CA (4/10/2026) -- Palomar fell to MiraCosta College 5-0 and San Diego Mesa College 3-2 on April 10 at MiraCosta College, dropping to 4-15 on the season and closing out the team portion of the schedule.

MiraCosta controlled the opening match from start to finish, sweeping all five flights without dropping a set. The Comets had no answers across the lineup against the Spartans, who have been one of the conference's stronger programs all season.

Against Mesa, Emma Bambe and Reese Maffitt and Caden Pinto and Janice Garcia were the story. Bambe and Maffitt opened the match with a clean 21-12, 21-16 win at No. 1, and Pinto and Garcia backed them up with a 21-12, 21-12 sweep at No. 2 to put Palomar in front 2-0. The Comets couldn't close it out from there, with Mesa taking the next three flights to claim the match 3-2 — but the performances at the top of the lineup were the best back-to-back showing Palomar has put together in conference play.

With the team season complete, Palomar now turns its attention to the individual postseason. The PCAC Individuals Tournament opens Wednesday at MiraCosta College, with the final eight remaining pairs advancing to championship matches Friday morning.
