Braves Promote Ex-Comet Hoyt To Triple-A
LAWRENCEVILLE, Georgia (6-18-2014) (UPDATED 7-01-2014) -- The Atlanta Braves have promoted former Palomar pitcher James Hoyt to their Gwinnett Braves farm club in the Triple-A International League.
Jimmy Hoyt had been 2-2 with six saves and a 1.21 ERA so far this season for the Mississippi Braves in the Class AA Southern League. Hoyt allowed one earned run on five hits over 11 innings in his most recent 10 appearances and, in his last six appearances, recorded six straight saves. He's struck out 42 batters and walked 9 in 29 2/3 innings out of the bullpen.
He pitched for the Atlanta Braves' Major League team in spring training prior to the current season.
Hoyt, a 6-foot-5, 220-pound right-hander, pitched for Centenary College of Louisiana after his two seasons at Palomar. He was 4-2 with back-to-back 2.25 and 3.55 earned run averages during the Comets' 2007 and 2008 seasons.
The Braves signed him on Nov. 15, 2012 after he had split the recently-concluded season between the Wichita Wingnuts of the American Association of Independent baseball and Olmecas de Tabasco of Villahermosa in the Mexican League.
