Weather Alters Schedule, Comets Sweep Riverside in Road Doubleheader

RIVERSIDE, CA (2/20/2026) -- Weather forced several adjustments to Palomar's schedule last week, but the No. 5 Comets responded with a strong showing on the road.

Tuesday's game against Cypress College was rained out and has been rescheduled for Sunday at 1 p.m. The Comets' matchup with Orange Coast College was also postponed due to rain and has not yet been rescheduled.

Instead of playing at home Saturday after a Friday road contest, Palomar traveled to Riverside City College and played a doubleheader Friday and came away with a sweep.

Game 1 – Palomar 2, Riverside 0

The opener turned into a pitcher's duel, with Palomar doing just enough offensively to secure the shutout victory.

Joey Navarro was dominant on the mound, tossing seven scoreless innings, allowing five hits while striking out three to improve to 4-0 on the season. Cody Cappelletti closed the door with two scoreless innings to earn the save.

Offensively, the Comets managed five hits but worked nine walks to create opportunities. Braedon Peterson-Cheek drove in a run, and Elijah Stephens added an RBI as Palomar scratched across runs in the fifth and ninth innings to secure the win.

Game 2 – Palomar 3, Riverside 1

The nightcap followed a similar script, with Palomar leaning on pitching depth and timely hitting.

Ryan Herrod started and worked three scoreless innings before Dylan Berentis bridged the middle frames. Joey Halter was lights out in relief, tossing three scoreless innings to earn the win and secure the sweep.

At the plate, Braedon Peterson-Cheek led the way with three hits, while Adrian Macias delivered a clutch two-RBI double late to give the Comets the lead. Elijah Stephens also drove in a run as Palomar rallied in the final two innings.

With the doubleheader sweep, Palomar improves to 10-2 on the season.

The Comets are scheduled to return home to face Cypress College on Sunday at 1 p.m.
