Palomar baseball earns ABCA Team Academic Excellence Award with 3.42 GPA

SAN MARCOS, CA (7/28/2026) -- A season that produced a state runner-up finish and one of the finest records in Palomar College baseball history also produced recognition off the field. The Comets have been named recipients of the 2025-26 American Baseball Coaches Association Team Academic Excellence Award, presented by Sports Attack, after posting a cumulative team GPA of 3.42 on a 4.0 scale during the 2025-26 academic year.

The ABCA presents the award annually to member high school and college programs that meet a minimum team GPA of 3.0. This year, more than 800 programs nationwide earned the honor, including more than 500 college programs. Palomar's 3.42 GPA places the program well above the qualifying threshold.

The award reflects a commitment to excellence that extends beyond the diamond. The 2026 Comets went 43-8 on the field, won their fifth consecutive PCAC Championship, and became the first program in school history to win 40 games in a season — all while maintaining a standard in the classroom that earned them national recognition.

The American Baseball Coaches Association has a long tradition of recognizing achievement in baseball at every level. The ABCA/Rawlings All-America Teams, founded in 1949, are the oldest in the nation, and the organization's awards program includes the ABCA/Rawlings All-Region Awards, the ABCA/ATEC Regional and National Coaches of the Year, the ABCA Hall of Fame, and the Dave Keilitz Ethics in Coaching Award.
