Comets Sweep Palomar Invite

SAN MARCOS, CA (9/12/2025) -- After opening their season on the road in Merced with a 3-2 showing, the Comets returned home to their own pool for the Palomar Invite Tournament and made a statement with back-to-back wins.

Palomar opened the day against Rio Hondo College and rolled to a 28-7 victory. The Comets got scoring from all over the lineup, with Josiah Wagner, Sam Goode, and Kaelin Kelley each netting three goals apiece, while Ramiro Mosquera and Mikey Montoro combined for nine second-half goals to put the game out of reach. Goalkeepers Mitchell Peyton and Alex Gonzalez split time in the cage, holding the Roadrunners to just seven goals.

In the afternoon, the Comets carried that momentum into an 18-8 win over El Camino College. Palomar jumped out to a 6-0 lead in the first quarter and never looked back. Mikey Montoro scored five goals in the win, while Jack Fritz, Cody Schnick, and Morgan Hartness each added two. Peyton and Gonzalez again split time in goal, combining for seven saves.

With the sweep, Palomar improved to 5-2 on the year and showed off its depth as the Comets prepare for the rest of their tournament schedule.
