CHULA VISTA, CA (10/31/2025) -- Palomar men's water polo opened the Dia De Los Muertos Tournament at Southwestern College with two dominant wins on Friday, defeating Santa Monica College 17-5 and Fullerton College 21-11.
Game One: Palomar 17, Santa Monica 5
The Comets started the tournament strong, erasing an early 3-0 deficit with a 17-2 run the rest of the way. Kaelin Kelley powered the offense with six goals, scoring four in the first half and two more in the third quarter to help Palomar pull away. Cody Schnick added three goals and two assists, while Jacob Godfrey and Jack Fritz each netted two.
Josiah Wagner and Sam Goode each found the back of the cage once and combined for five assists, while Morgan Hartness chipped in a goal and two helpers. Defensively, goalkeepers Mitchell Peyton and Alex Gonzalez combined for 15 saves, holding the Corsairs to just one goal over the final three quarters.
Game Two: Palomar 21, Fullerton 11
In their second match of the day, the Comets stayed hot, exploding for 12 second-half goals to pull away from Fullerton. Morgan Hartness led all scorers with six goals and three assists in a dominant two-way performance. Brian Otto and Josiah Wagner each scored three times, while Jacob Godfrey and Brody Rodriguez both added two in the win.
Sam Goode tallied two goals and four assists, and Kaelin Kelley added two goals and four steals as Palomar controlled both ends of the pool. Mitchell Peyton and Alex Gonzalez again split time in goal, combining for 10 saves while the Comets outscored Fullerton 13-4 after halftime.
With the two wins, Palomar improved its overall record and advanced into Saturday's matchups with momentum and confidence.
