Tigers tamed by Palomar bats, 21-3
RIVERSIDE, CA (2/10/2026) – Winning for the fifth time in as many games without being extended to seven innings, the Palomar College softball team rolled to a 21-3 nonconference victory Tuesday at Riverside City College.
After scoring a single run in the top of the first inning on an RBI single by sophomore designated player Lauren Doepping, the Comets exploded for seven runs in the second inning, nine more in the third and four in the fifth to bring on the mercy-run rule. Palomar, which remained ranked No. 2 in the latest California Community College Fastpitch Coaches Association state poll, improved to 5-0 on the season while dropping Riverside City to 1-7.
Doepping, sophomore first baseman Alexis Huey and sophomore catcher Dominique Garcia all had three hits apiece as the Comets amassed a season-high 23 hits against the Tigers. Doepping added a two-run single in the second inning, while Huey connected on her third home run of the season and also hit a run-scoring single while batting twice during Palomar's nine-run rally in the third inning, when the Comets sent 15 batters to the plate.
Doepping and Garcia each had three RBIs, with Garcia providing a run-scoring single in the second and a two-run double in the third.
Freshman second baseman Kristina Deal had two hits, including her first home run of the season for Palomar's first run of the second inning. Freshmen Delaney Smith and Emma Schneider both came off the bench to collect two hits apiece, and sophomore Grace McNally also came off the bench and hit an RBI double in the fifth inning to score freshman Emily Wright, who reached with a single.
The hits for McNally and Wright were the first of the season for both players, and freshman Tyler Krystek also recorded her first hit when she followed McNally's double with a run-scoring single. Also coming off the bench to provide batting support was freshman Jessica Covarrubias, whose RBI single capped the Palomar scoring in the fifth.
Sophomore right-hander Kiara Flaviani started in the circle and pitched three scoreless innings for her fifth win of the season. Flaviani allowed one hit with two walks and two strikeouts.
Freshman Leasivao Sauileone and sophomore Hailey White each pitched one inning of relief, with Sauileone allowing three runs on two hits and White allowing no runs and one hit.
Palomar returns home Feb. 13 for a nonconference doubleheader against No. 12 Antelope Valley. Game 1 is slated to start at noon in San Marcos.
