Palomar Wrestling 2025 Season Preview

Reloading After a Podium Finish

The Comets are coming off a third-place team finish at the 2024 CCCAA State Championships. With a mix of returning placers and a deep freshman class, Palomar looks to stay among California's best.

Key Returners

  • Ivan Natceli (174, Sophomore) – Natceli was one of Palomar's most reliable postseason performers last year, placing third at state after reeling off five straight wins in the wrestlebacks. At the intrasquad, he scored a major decision over Christian Flechas and followed with another dominant win.

  • Dylan Henry (197, Sophomore) – A state fourth-place finisher, Henry brings proven upper-weight experience. He's expected to anchor the lineup and provide leadership in a young room.

  • Nicholas Rodriguez (149, Sophomore) – Competed at last year's state tournament, where he earned a win and valuable experience. Intrasquad action saw him pin Logan Collins, showing he's ready to step up as a key scorer.

New Faces to Watch

The freshman-heavy roster is full of promise:

  • 133/141: Hunter Haynes and Lance Nguyen both recorded pins at the intrasquad, while Eric Aguilar Ramirez, Daniel Heverly, and Tyler Williams add depth. Sophomore Eliel Santiago also provides experience.

  • 141/149: Sergio Porras stood out with two wins at the scrimmage, including a tech fall over Xavier Nolasco. He and Logan Collins will push Rodriguez and create depth.

  • 157: Marvin Morton shined with multiple wins, including one over Saul Escalante. Freshmen Ethan Sanchez and James Fitzgerald add competition here.

  • 165: This weight class was one of the most competitive at the scrimmage. Patrick Piec went 2-0, including a win over Farzad Mohammadi. Mohammadi and Joseph Perez bring more lineup options, while Roman Gonzales and Diego Castro add depth.

  • 174/184: The middleweights are loaded. Alongside Natceli, Seth Iten had two impressive victories, while Sebastian Anderson, Cristian Flechas, Patrick Piec, Giancarlo Tolentino, Edrey Velasquez, and Joseph Weiss give the Comets flexibility across both weights.

  • 197: Sophomore Jakar Carter and freshman Nicholas Garris provide competition behind Henry.

  • 285: Freshmen Alejandro Scolari and Isaiah De La Rosa will look to replace graduated placer Mustafa Farha, and Scolari already showed his power with a scrimmage pin.

Outlook

This year's Palomar roster is youth-driven but balanced by proven leaders in Natceli, Henry, and Rodriguez. The intrasquad highlighted strong depth at the middleweights and multiple newcomers capable of breaking through immediately.

If the freshmen develop quickly and the returners repeat last year's postseason form, the Comets have the tools to remain a top-five program in the state — and possibly challenge for even more. The Comets will open their season at the Mt. San Atonio College Duals on Saturday.
