Comets Take Second at Meathead Movers Invitational

CUESTA, CA (10/25/2025) -- Palomar Wrestling continued its impressive midseason push with a runner-up finish at the 2025 Meathead Movers Invitational, hosted by Cuesta College. The Comets totaled 135.5 points to finish second overall in the 12-team field, behind only host Cuesta (163.5). Palomar placed eight wrestlers inside the top six, including three champions and two finalists, showing balance across nearly every weight class.

At 174 pounds, Ivan Natceli and Seth Iten turned the finals into an all-Comet affair, meeting for the championship after dominant runs through the bracket. In a competitive bout, Natceli came away with an 11-5 decision over his teammate to claim the individual title, while Iten secured second place. The pair combined for critical team points in a deep weight class that featured multiple ranked wrestlers.

Sebastian Anderson added another gold medal at 184 pounds, closing out his day with a 6:28 fall in the championship match over Lemoore's Ricardo Trevino. Anderson was in control from the opening whistle and continued his strong stretch of bonus-point wins. At the same weight, Giancarlo Tolentino battled back through the consolation bracket to finish fifth, winning a 3-0 decision in his final bout.

At 141 pounds, Sergio Porras claimed third place after a dominant 28-8 technical fall over Santa Ana's Micah Van Grol in the consolation final. The sophomore improved to 3-1 on the day and earned valuable points in the team standings.

Heavyweight Alejandro Scolari delivered one of the tightest wins of the tournament, taking third place after a 1-0 decision over Sacramento City's Ahmad Wahedi. His steady control and late escape sealed the podium finish, adding more upper-weight strength to Palomar's scoring total.

The Comets also saw contributions from Nick Garris, who placed fourth at 197, and Marvin Morton, who took sixth at 157. Garris advanced to the semifinals before falling in the third-place match, while Morton battled through a stacked field before withdrawing late due to injury.

Palomar's team depth once again proved to be a difference-maker. With three top-three finishers in the upper weights and multiple medalists in the lower brackets, the Comets held off Bakersfield and Moorpark to lock up the No. 2 team spot.

The second-place finish marked another strong showing in a competitive month that has seen Palomar climb the regional standings and continue to produce finalists across multiple divisions. The Comets will next turn their attention to two more duals before heading north for the Bill Musick Invitational at Fresno City College as they continue preparing for postseason competition.
