Comets Continue to Build Momentum at Viking Invitational

LONG BEACH, CA (3/7/2025) -- The Palomar College women's track and field team delivered another steady performance at the Long Beach City College Viking Invitational, showing continued growth and depth across the board in both track and field events.

Freshman Roxana Contreras showcased her versatility once again, competing in four events. She posted a 12th-place finish in the 800 meters with a time of 2:57.86, leapt to 5th place in the long jump (4.62m), and added a 7th-place finish in the javelin (22.32m). She also threw 5.44 meters in the shot put.

In middle-distance events, Lauren Gonzalez led the Comets with a strong 6th-place finish in the 800 meters (2:51.60) and improved her season best in the 1500 meters, placing 5th with a time of 5:47.51. Hannah Strate continued to show consistency, finishing 14th in the 800 (3:00.88) and 7th in the 1500 (6:00.72).

Sophomore Brianna Figueroa and freshmen Jazmyn Brinkman, and Kyara Emanuel added depth to the Comets' distance crew. Figueroa clocked 3:09.77 in the 800 (16th), Brinkman ran 3:29.50 (19th) in the 800 and 6:54.53 (15th) in the 1500, and Emanuel finished 17th in the 800 (3:12.62) and 13th in the 1500 (6:45.17).

In the field, Fialupe Vaivai had one of the standout performances of the meet for Palomar, placing 2nd in the discus with a throw of 34.18 meters. She also took 5th in the shot put (9.04m) and 10th in the javelin (19.90m). Morgan Fornof remained consistent in all three of her events, finishing 8th in the shot put (8.79m), 9th in the discus (26.62m), and 8th in the javelin (21.99m). Sophia Wicks rounded out the throwing squad with 11th in the shot put (8.13m), 17th in the discus (22.39m), and 12th in the javelin (18.55m).

Palomar will look to keep the momentum going in their next meet as they continue building toward peak form.
