Comets Keep Pace at Competitive OCC Coast Classic

COSTA MESA, CA (3/14/2025) -- The Palomar College women's track and field team continued its spring campaign with a solid performance at the 2025 Orange Coast College Coast Classic, held March 13–14. With strong efforts in both distance and field events, the Comets demonstrated growth and resilience in a deep and competitive field.

Michelle Aguilar led the middle-distance squad, clocking a season-best 2:48.79 to finish 16th in the 800 meters and following it up with a 21st-place finish in the 1500 meters (5:49.66). Lauren Gonzalez was just behind in the 1500, running 5:51.45 for 22nd place and later earning 7th in the 3000 meters with a strong time of 12:24.14—her highest placement of the season. Hannah Strate contributed a solid double with a 24th-place finish in the 1500 (6:08.71) and a 9th-place run in the 3000 meters (12:52.20).

Freshman Kyara Emanuel finished 24th in the 800 meters (3:10.62), while Jazmyn Brinkman clocked 3:28.10 in the 800 (25th) and 6:52.34 in the 1500 (29th), continuing to gain valuable race experience.

In field events, Morgan Fornof remained a consistent performer, placing 15th in shot put (8.52m) and 13th in discus (26.81m). Sophia Wicks competed in four events, finishing 19th in shot put (7.13m), 16th in discus (23.93m), 9th in hammer (18.66m), and 11th in javelin (19.19m), marking one of her most complete meets of the season.

Notably, Roxana Contreras competed in the full heptathlon and placed 9th overall with 2,206 points, continuing to establish herself as one of the team's most versatile athletes.

The Comets will look to keep their momentum going as they prepare for the final stretch of the regular season.
