Palomar Competes Strong at Arnie Robinson Invite

SAN DIEGO, CA (3/28/2025) -- The Palomar College women's track and field team delivered another strong all-around performance at the Arnie Robinson Invitational, hosted by San Diego Mesa College on March 28. The Comets showed their depth and development with solid finishes across middle-distance and field events.

Freshman Lauren Gonzalez continued to lead the distance squad with an impressive 2:49.29 in the 800 meters (13th place) and 5:41.07 in the 1500 meters (11th place)—both among her season's bests. Michelle Aguilar followed closely in the 1500, clocking 5:43.09 for 12th place. Brianna Figueroa also contributed with a 15th-place finish in the 800 (2:59.63), while Jazmyn Brinkman ran 3:27.45 in the 800 and 6:55.25 in the 1500.

On the field side, Roxana Contreras had another busy meet, earning 4th place in the javelin (22.87m), 10th in the long jump (4.61m), and 9th in the high jump (1.30m). She also threw 6.60m in the shot put for a 9th-place finish.

The throws group continued to shine, led by Morgan Fornof, who placed 3rd in the shot put with a season-best 9.20m, 6th in the discus (24.41m), and 8th in the hammer (24.71m). She also added a 10th-place finish in the javelin (19.40m). Sophia Wicks also had a standout day, finishing 5th in the discus (26.25m), 8th in the shot put (8.14m), 10th in the hammer (18.81m), and 11th in the javelin (18.03m).

The Comets also entered a 4x400 meter relay team—Michelle Aguilar, Roxana Contreras, Hannah Strate, and Lauren Gonzalez—who gained valuable experience despite not recording an official time.

Palomar will return to competition next week as the season heats up heading toward the postseason.
