Comets Fall to Cypress in Non-Conference Finale
Palomar College Baseball wrapped up its non-conference schedule Sunday afternoon, falling 6-3 to Cypress College at Bob Vetter Field.
The Comets struck first, plating three runs in the second inning to take an early lead. Braedon Peterson-Cheek drove in a run, and TK Madera delivered a two-RBI single as Palomar capitalized on early opportunities.
Cypress responded with three runs in the fifth inning to tie the game and added insurance runs in the seventh and eighth to pull away.
Palomar finished with five hits and worked seven walks but was unable to generate additional offense after the second inning. Michael Rodda collected two hits to lead the Comets at the plate.
On the mound, Jude Atley worked 4.2 innings, allowing three runs (one earned) while striking out six. Jordan Green followed with 2.1 innings in relief before Chance Crawford and Angel Barron closed out the game.
With the loss, Palomar concludes its non-conference slate at 10-3.
The Comets will now turn their attention to conference play, traveling to San Diego Mesa College on Thursday for a 1 p.m. first pitch in their conference opener.
