EL CAJON, CA (12/7/2025) -- No. 25 Palomar battled to the end but came up short in the Grossmont College Invitational championship game, falling 75–68 to No. 19 San Diego City College on Sunday evening.
The two teams traded runs throughout the night, but the Knights' interior scoring and timely free throws proved decisive. San Diego City outscored the Comets 40–22 in the paint and limited Palomar to just 33.3% shooting.
Despite the loss, Angel Ochoa delivered a standout performance, scoring 17 points and knocking down 8-of-9 from the free throw line. Isaiah Pomare posted a 12-point, 10-rebound double-double, and Justin White added 13 points, going 7-for-11 at the stripe.
Benjie Nudo provided nine points off the bench, while Jaidyn Norman finished with seven points and five rebounds. Defensively, Alvyn Renfro-Hardy gave the Comets a late boost with five points and three assists.
Even with the setback, Palomar closes the tournament with a strong showing at 7–4 overall, rising into the state's Top 20 and proving they can compete with the region's best.
The Comets now turn the page and prepare to open Pacific Coast Athletic Conference play on December 17, when they host Southwestern College at 5 p.m. inside the Dome.
