Men’s Volleyball Drops Pair at Grossmont Quad, Turns Attention to Conference Play
EL CAJON, CA (2/20/2026) -- Palomar men's volleyball came up short in both matches at Friday's quad hosted by Grossmont College, falling to Santa Barbara City College and Moorpark College.
In the opening match, the Comets took the first set but couldn't hold off Santa Barbara, falling in four sets 25-22, 14-25, 23-25, 19-25. Tyler Smith led Palomar with 10 kills, while Connor Ferguson added eight on an efficient .429 hitting percentage. Josh Garland and Paul Kozmiski each contributed six kills, and Todd Clemens dished out 29 assists as the Comets totaled 40 kills in the match .
Palomar returned to the court in the afternoon but dropped a straight-set decision to Moorpark, 25-16, 25-19, 25-8. Smith again paced the offense with eight kills, while Aiden Gardiner added five on a .556 clip. The Comets recorded 25 kills in the match but struggled to find consistency against a high-powered Moorpark attack .
Palomar will now shift its focus to conference play, opening on the road Wednesday against Irvine Valley College with a 6 p.m. first serve.
