Comets Open Season with Offensive Firepower

SAN MARCOS, CA (9/5/2025) -- Palomar women's water polo wasted no time making a statement in their season opener, storming past Cerritos College 20-12 on Friday morning in game one of the Comet Mini Tournament.

The Comets erupted for eight goals in the opening quarter to take control early and never looked back. Freshman McKynley McCulloch and sophomore Kaylin Mihelich powered the attack with five goals apiece, while Malia Hanss added four.

Mia Fick set the tone with back-to-back goals in the first frame and finished with three, and Keyanna Mucino chipped in two more as the Comets built an 8-2 lead after the first quarter. Palomar's balanced scoring carried through all four periods, with five different Comets finding the back of the net.

On the defensive end, goalkeeper Savannah Walker made seven saves to keep Cerritos at bay. Hanss and Fick each collected three steals to help turn defense into offense.

The Comets (1-0) will continue tournament play later today at Wallace Memorial Pool as they look to build on a strong opening performance.
