Comets Battle But Fall to Host Miramar
SAN DIEGO, CA (9/6/2025) -- Palomar women's water polo closed out the San Diego Miramar Mini Tournament with a competitive effort, but the host Jets pulled away late for a 12-8 win on Saturday afternoon.
The Comets came out firing, building a 3-0 lead in the first quarter behind goals from Mia Fick and Keyanna Mucino. After Miramar rallied to even the score, McKynley McCulloch answered with back-to-back goals in the second quarter to keep Palomar within striking distance.
The teams traded goals again in the third, with Fick and Kevyn Hentchel finding the back of the net. McCulloch added her third of the contest, but the Jets scored the final six goals of the game to secure the victory.
Fick and Mucino each scored twice, while Savannah Walker collected eight saves in goal to keep the Comets close.
Palomar (2-2) will get another chance at Miramar later this season when the two programs meet again in conference play. The Comets return to action on Wednesday, September 17, when they host Crafton Hills College in their conference opener at Wallace Memorial Pool.
