Zavala Leads Comets to First Win of the Season

VICTOR VALLEY, CA (9/2/2025) -- Palomar men's soccer broke through on the road Tuesday, earning a 3-1 victory at Victor Valley College behind a two-goal performance from Ismael Zavala.

After a scoreless opening half-hour, Zavala opened the scoring in the 33rd minute on a penalty kick to give the Comets the early edge. Coming out of the break, Jakub Kozlowski doubled the advantage in the 57th minute, finishing a feed from Jonatan Maelicke.

The Rams answered back with a goal in the 74th minute, but Palomar wasted no time putting the match away. Just three minutes later, Zavala struck again, this time off an assist from Alejandro Vargas, sealing the 3-1 win.

Goalkeeper Amanueal Kidanemariam anchored the defense with five saves in net as Palomar earned its first victory of 2025.

With the result, the Comets (1-2) will look to carry momentum forward as nonconference play continues.
