SAN MARCOS, CA (11/1/2025) -- The 2025–26 season opener for No. 6 Palomar was an early test of toughness, and the Comets battled through every possession before falling 65–56 in overtime to No. 25 Irvine Valley College on Saturday evening.
The Comets led 10–8 after the first quarter and stayed within striking distance all night. A strong third-quarter surge, sparked by Ivorii Seals and Kylee Trujillo, who combined for 12 points in the period, gave Palomar a narrow lead heading into the fourth. But Irvine Valley forced overtime and outscored the Comets 12–3 in the extra session to escape with the win.
Seals and Trujillo each finished with 14 points, while ReeRee Davis added 10 points and 10 assists. Kailani Flournoy anchored the paint with 16 rebounds, five points, and four steals. The Comets generated 13 steals and 25 points off turnovers, forcing 27 Irvine Valley miscues in a gritty defensive effort.
Palomar (0–1) will travel to Mt. San Jacinto College on Thursday for a 4 p.m. matchup against No. 15 Long Beach City College.
