No. 6 Palomar Cruises Past Merced in Cypress Tournament Opener

CYPRESS, CA (12/5/2025) -- The No. 6-ranked Palomar Comets opened the Cypress College Tournament with a wire-to-wire 77–57 victory over Merced College on Friday afternoon, bouncing back from their double-overtime thriller earlier in the week with a sharp, disciplined performance.

The Comets came out blazing, dropping 28 first-quarter points while holding Merced to just five. After a slower second period, Palomar reasserted control with a 24-point third quarter and pushed the lead to as many as 30 behind efficient scoring, crisp passing, and a disruptive defensive effort that forced 18 turnovers.

Ivorii Seals led the offensive charge with 19 points on 8-of-15 shooting, while Kylee Trujillo added 14 points and four rebounds. Bailey Wavrik delivered one of her strongest performances of the season with 12 points, five steals, and four rebounds off the bench, and Kami Gillis knocked down three threes to finish with 13 points.

Inside, Kailani Flournoy was steady as ever with eight points and seven rebounds, while multiple Comets contributed to a 38–38 rebounding battle. ReeRee Davis orchestrated the offense efficiently with nine points, seven assists, and just one turnover, helping Palomar generate 33 points off turnovers and 48 points in the paint.

With the win, Palomar improves to 6–2 and advances to day two of the tournament. The Comets will face Saddleback College tomorrow night as they look to continue their strong early-season play.
