Comets Show Fight in 4-2 Season Opening Loss

SAN MARCOS, CA (8/26/2025) -- Palomar women's soccer kicked off the 2025 season at home on Tuesday afternoon, battling back twice before ultimately falling 4-2 to San Bernardino Valley College.

The Wolverines struck first with two quick goals to build a 2-0 lead midway through the first half. The Comets responded before the break when freshman Cisilya Martinez put away a chance created by Emma Gryn, cutting the deficit in half going into halftime.

San Bernardino Valley extended its advantage early in the second period, but Palomar kept pressing. With time winding down, Mia Magana connected on a late goal from Lizzy Cook to pull the Comets within striking distance at 3-2. The Wolverines answered once more in the 79th minute to close out the match.

In her debut, goalkeeper Nathalie Mancilla registered six saves while anchoring a young Comet squad that showed plenty of grit despite the final score.
