No. 20 Comets Fall in Straight Sets to No. 16 San Diego Miramar

SAN DIEGO, CA (10/3/2025) -- The No. 20-ranked Palomar College women's volleyball team battled through three tightly contested sets Friday night but came up just short against No. 16 San Diego Miramar College, falling 3–0 (25–22, 25–20, 25–23). The loss drops the Comets to 11–4 overall and 4–2 in Pacific Coast Athletic Conference play.

Battling Every Point

All three sets went down to the wire as the Comets traded blows with one of the top programs in the state. Palomar led deep into the opening frame before Miramar rallied late, and each of the final two sets featured multiple ties and lead changes before the Jets closed out narrow wins.

Offensive Highlights

Freshman Reese Maffitt led the Comets with nine kills on .231 hitting, while Teiora Tinoisamoa added five kills and two blocks. Sierra Schoenwald hit an efficient .400 with four kills and three block assists, and Caden Pinto dished out 20 assists with a kill and an ace.

Emma Bambe tallied 11 digs to go with three kills, and Kate Johnson added eight digs and two total blocks. Libero Kiana Merrill anchored the defense with 11 digs and steady passing against Miramar's powerful offense.

Looking Ahead

Despite the straight-set loss, the Comets continued to show they can compete point-for-point with top-ranked opponents. Palomar will look to rebound on Wednesday night when they return home to host Grossmont College at The Dome.
