Comets Sweep Cuyamaca to Get Back on Track
SAN MARCOS, CA (10/15/2025) -- The Palomar College women's volleyball team got exactly the response it needed Wednesday night. Coming off a tough five-set loss, the Comets bounced back with a dominant 3–0 sweep over Cuyamaca College (25–12, 27–25, 25–20) at The Dome, improving to 12–5 overall and 5–3 in Pacific Coast Athletic Conference play.
Starting Strong and Staying Steady
The Comets raced out to an early lead, controlling the first set 25–12 behind clean hitting and aggressive serving. Cuyamaca pushed back in the second, forcing extra points, but Palomar held its composure to escape 27–25 before closing out the match with a balanced third-set performance.
Offensive Balance Across the Board
Freshman Reese Maffitt and Teiora Tinoisamoa led the way with 11 kills apiece, with Tinoisamoa hitting .250 and adding a block assist. Sierra Schoenwald was highly efficient, hitting .462 with six kills and three total blocks, while Emma Bambe added six kills and 11 digs for another steady two-way outing.
Setter Caden Pinto kept the offense moving with 33 assists, adding a kill, an ace, and five digs of her own. Mackenzie Moreno chipped in two aces, and Janice Garcia was effective at the net with two kills and a block assist in limited action.
Defensive Control
Libero Kiana Merrill anchored the back row once again with 11 digs, while the Comets collectively held Cuyamaca to a .122 hitting percentage. As a team, Palomar tallied 44 digs and seven aces to keep the Coyotes out of rhythm from start to finish.
Looking Ahead
With the win, the Comets improved to 5–3 in conference play and regained their footing in the PCAC standings. Palomar will look to carry that momentum into its next home match against Imperial Valley College on Friday night.
