Comets Open Second Round of Conference Play with Sweep Over Imperial Valley
SAN MARCOS, CA (10/17/2025) -- The Palomar College women's volleyball team started the second half of Pacific Coast Athletic Conference play in dominant fashion, sweeping Imperial Valley College 3–0 (25–19, 25–22, 25–16) at The Dome on Friday night. The win moved the Comets to 13–5 overall and 6–3 in conference play.
Fast Start to the Second Round
The Comets picked up right where they left off from Wednesday's win, using sharp serving and balanced attacking to control the tempo throughout the match. Each set saw Palomar surge late to put away Imperial Valley, keeping the visitors on their heels from start to finish.
Offensive Highlights
Freshman Teiora Tinoisamoa led a well-balanced offense with nine kills on .444 hitting, while Reese Maffitt also tallied nine kills and five digs. Sierra Schoenwald stayed hot in the middle, finishing with seven kills on .500 hitting to go along with three block assists, and Emma Bambe contributed eight kills and six digs.
Setter Caden Pinto steered the attack with 32 assists, adding two kills, an ace, and 11 digs in a strong all-around effort. Mackenzie Moreno provided a service ace off the bench, and Dovie Daniels added five kills and two block assists.
Defensive Control
Defensively, Kiana Merrill anchored the back row with eight digs and two service aces. As a team, Palomar held Imperial Valley to a .188 hitting percentage and tallied eight total team blocks.
Next Up
With the win, the Comets are 6–3 in PCAC play and will head to San Diego Mesa College on Wednesday for the start of a challenging stretch in the second round of conference action.
